Blog Tour Review Sunday: The One Thing by Briana Gaitan

Amazon (only $0.99 for kindle) Goodreads

Goodreads Blurb:
"When everything falls apart, he's the one thing that holds me together.

Ginger Teague may seem like your typical Hollywood actress with the famous boyfriend, designer clothes, money, and hit TV show, but constantly being in the public eye has its downside.
People seem more interested in her chaotic relationship with her on again/ off again boyfriend than her acting career, and Ginger isn't dealing with her new found fame in a way she always envisioned. She masks her unhappiness with too many parties and an unhealthy habit of binge drinking. As much as she wants love, men find her as a pretty amusement, not the type of girl you take home to mom and dad.
She meets Caspian Norwood, and they start a regimen of flirty emails.
He's a struggling musician that doesn't quite fit her idea of the perfect boyfriend.
He's older, mysterious, cultured, knows exactly what to say and do in all the right situations, and Ginger can't help falling for him. But the world is against them, pushing them apart, and it's beginning to feel as if they are only meant to be friends."

Review:
Thank you to the author, Briana Gaitan, for organizing the blog tour and gifting copies of the book in exchange for honest reviews!

The thing that really amazed me while reading this book and the preceding one (The Last Thing) is that it's so realistic.  The stories center around Hollywood characters and their lives.  Some books might portray the stereotypical 'attention-seeking' characters that don't have the best morals.  In Ms. Gaitan's books however, another side of Hollywood is shown where there are more lies than truth and the people in it are trapped in a maze with no exit.

That aspect really kept me reading.  Ginger is another reason.  She struggles with a potential alcohol addiction and Caspian... well lets just say he puts an interesting spin on things.

The timeline of the book really shows Ginger's journey at it's fullest.  Be warned however, there is some adult content in this book (especially the last few chapters) so if you aren't into that kind of thing, I'd skip those chapters.

It was a bit predictable for me however but maybe that's just because I've read so many love stories where it's always the second guy that comes around who wins the girls heart and saves her from the 'horrible first guy'.

The Final Verdict:
This is a great all-around love story about friendship, loss, fame, fortune, pain, and redemption.  It was a bit predictable but don't all books have that potential?
4 stars
